Ajmer was a premier city of northern India during the heyday of tis chauhan rulers but after thir downfall it become vulnerable to the sinister design of the vying potentiates both far and near who contended for its acquisition and retention peace eluded it for nearly three and a half, centuries till it was incorporated in the mughal empire by akbar.Erstwhile the holy city of Ajmer was the empire of Chauhan dynasty. The city was founded by Ajay Pal Chauhan in the 7th century. The city has witnessed several attacks and it had been ruled by Mohammad Ghauri, Mewar Rulers, Marwar Rulers Mughals, Marathas, and finally also by British. Ajmer was also associated with a great Sufi Saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti who came here from Persia at the end of 12th century.
